Weekly WoW positions released for 05/11/15!!!

Dear Warriors,

Which of the university’s 10 schools produces the most analytical, brave, persuasive, intelligent Warriors???

To discover the answer to this question, I am delighted to release the Weekly WoW positions – for all students across the university – for THURSDAY 5th NOVEMBER, to be held in N001 (the lecture theatre OPPOSITE the Weston Auditorium) at 6pm.

If you would like to defend any of these positions, please volunteer, using the ‘comments’ box below, and I will assign you a position at random (subject to availability):

1. That social media has made the world a lonelier place

2. That arranged marriages are better than other types of marriage

3. That alcohol was never meant to be consumed and should be banned

4. That violent video games and movies do more harm than good

5. That the UK should allow assisted suicide

6. That we should be allowed to genetically engineer ‘perfect’ human beings

You will need to consider the position, research it carefully and then defend it for one minute – then be subjected to questions from the audience. You will be marked on three criteria; (i) content – what you say initially and in response to questions; (b) presentation – how you say it, and how well you controlled the crowd; and (c) popularity – the public vote. The judge’s decision is final – and I will be your judge! N.B. If you volunteer, then you MUST attend and participate – no ‘cold feet’.

As usual, the weekly social in Club DeHavilland will take place straight afterwards from 7.30pm onwards.

See you on the 5th!

Dan

First Weekly WoW positions released!!!

Dear Warriors,

THE FIRST WEEKLY WoW OF THE 2015-16 ACADEMIC YEAR IS HERE!!!

WoW is now going University-wide, with students from all ten Schools invited to test their verbal sparring skills against each other, and proclaim themselves ‘The University of Hertfordshire’s Word Warrior of the Year’.

To increase the gladitorial aspect of each session, we are moving WoW out of the cosy environment of the law building’s Courtroom, into the large, overwhelming, amphitheatre of the Weston Auditorium or ‘N’ Block banked lecture theatres – it will be fun to see our Word Warriors take on crowds of anything up to 500 audience member judges!

I am delighted to release the Weekly WoW positions for THURSDAY 15th OCTOBER, to be held in N001 at 6pm.

If you would like to defend any of these positions, please volunteer, using the ‘comments’ box below, and I will assign you a position at random (subject to availability):

1. That movies were better before Computer Generated Imagery (CGI)

2. That the school-leaving age should be raised to 21

3. That patriotism is simply racism in disguise

4. That Class A drugs should be available, by prescription, to addicts

5. That music cannot be taught

6. That space exploration is a waste of money

You will need to consider the position, research it carefully and then defend it for one minute – then be subjected to questions from the audience. You will be marked on three criteria; (i) content – what you say initially and in response to questions; (b) presentation – how you say it; (c) popularity – the public vote. The judge’s decision is final – and I will be your judge! N.B. If you volunteer, then you MUST attend and participate – no ‘cold feet’.

As usual, the weekly social in Club DeHavilland will take place straight afterwards from 7.30pm onwards.

Finally, the most important questions University of Hertfordshire students ask themselves, will be answered:

Are Law students the best arguers?

Are Business students the most commercially-aware?

Are Physics, Astronomy and Maths students the most analytical?

Are Humanities students the most human?

Are Creative Arts students the most creative?

Are Computer Science students the most modern-thinking?

Are Engineering and Technology students the most able?

Are Education students the cleverest?

Are Life and Medical Science students the most practical?

Do Health and Social Work students really know what’s going on?

See you on the 15th!

Dan
